Hidden Beauty

My morning walk has revealed hidden beauty in my common life, my Secret Garden. I found more places where there are pine trees with little black birds with white chest and a stripe of white tails. I found tiny prairie with butterflies. All within few footsteps away from my front door.

This situational beauty, can only be felt when you are in your leisure, when you're not catching up some appointment, worry about being late sending the kids to school, or going to work.

And that is rare case.

Similar case when there is statement that Indonesia is a beautiful place. Say what??!! For Jakarta people that always in a rush of rush hour and stuck in a traffic jam, and garbage being dumped every second at random place by its own residents, that is an absurd statement.

But when my friend @johanamay posted this on her instagram yesterday (which has to be seen while listening to her golden voice as posten in her soundcloud, and I saw this video on Mentawai island  (I shall give credits to the original post in vimeo.com which is banned by our dearest Minister of Communication and Information, Fuck you, Tiffi, thank me) -- I understand, that beauty will not present itself easily. It has to be searched, sought after.  Like what we found in a remote island in Kepulauan Seribu that we went to 3 years ago.

I call this locational beauty (suka-suka gue donk term-nya).

Other kind of hidden beauty, in on the people around you. Be it your spouse, your children, thy neighbors, or the passer-by. If you keep being caught in the web of everyday boring chores, it's easily think that everyone is awful and disappointing for not meeting our expectations.

Yet, when we stop and thank God for all the people around us that has so willingly love us even when we are not very lovable, or even fleeting smile from the passer-by that you barely know or remember, that is when you found their personal beauty.

As Frances Hodgson Burnett suggests in The Secret Garden, you will find beauty everywhere. Yes, even at the most unexpected situation, or location, or people. The place where we are perfect in every aspects at that very moment, and the world are beautiful as can be.

You only need to find a door to enter that Secret Garden, that is through your own heart.
